The Li River or Lijiang is a river in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. It ranges 83 kilometers from Guilin to Yangshuo, where the Karst mountain and river sights highlight the famous Li River cruise. Most Li River Cruises take you along a 54-kilometer stretch of the river from Zhujiang Dock to Yangshuo. The whole boat ride lasts about 4 hours. A Li River tour shows a different aspect of China for you can only see miles of rice paddies and fields full of water buffalo and concrete is nowhere here.
To really appreciate the scenery, a cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo is a must and your voyage of discovery can be gernerally divided into three sections: The first step is from downtown Guilin where you board the cruiser to Huangniu Xia (valley). After you end your voyage, you can enjoy the natural wonder and local customs. Upon reaching Huangniu Xia (valley) the cruise enters upon the second section. This is the key of Li River. You must be impressed by the wonderful mountains, clear water and the romantic legends. Shuiluo Village is the third and final section that ends at Yangshuo. Here you will see water buffalo, ducks swimming and fishermen’s boats. Also fishing villages, farmland and bamboos are on your side. This quiet rural scenery is really a sharp contrast to the noisy modern city life and you must have a totally new experience.
The river has been named as Gui Water, Gui River and East River in history. As early as the South Song Dynasty, Guilin claimed to have the most beautiful landscape under heaven. A lot of excellent poems and works on this charming river are still lingering in the south China for its long history and civilization. In November of 1982, Li River was listed as the first” National Key Places of Interests” by the State Council. In December of 1991, Li River ranked second on the list of “top 40 scenic spots in the country” declared by Tourism Administration of China. In November of 1996, Li River was listed as one of 13 National Special Protected Rivers.
The Li River Cruise offers you a rare opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the fabulous scenery. Cruising down the river, you will encounter breathtaking views of fantastic peaks of all shapes and sizes, green hills, and bamboo groves. Even better, you can see these awesome sights reflected from the crystal clear water. The distinctive scenes along the river are world-renowned as the backdrop for Chinese scrolls. Bill Clinton said, “I heard of the name of Li River long ago. Today I visit Li River. It is more vivid and genuine than what I thought before. Nowhere is like Guilin. It makes me think of the traditional Chinese paintings.”
